Motivational Monday: If you fall off, get back up!

This past weekend, I fell off my horse. I felt it coming last week when I went from waking up at 6 am to 7:30, then going back to sleep once I was awake. Since my son is out for summer vacation, I figured I’d give myself some time to get some extra sleep—something every mama needs more of. But the sudden shift in time threw me off. Because of the late time, my practice was cut short which in turn had an impact on how I felt throughout my day. This weekend, I knew I had to get back on my horse.

Sometimes life can through us curves. Sometimes we have a bad day and can’t figure out how to shake the blah feeling and get back to our routine. We can either sit there and feel bad for ourselves or become aware of what is going on and what we are doing and get back on track.

Take a moment to pause and look at where things may be loose in your self-care practices or habits. Then make a plan to either pick up where you left off or start from a different place. Sometimes we need a different approach to help freshen up what we have committed ourselves to.

Are there areas I your life where you feel you’re not giving your full effort? What are you willing to do to get back on track?

Have an amazing day!!!

What A Mama Needs: Get Organized

For the longest time, I resisted being “really organized.” I would see the organized mom type binders and roll my eyes, saying to myself, ”I don’t need that, ” but secretly something in me knew that I deeply wanted to have some serious organization in my life. I used to think that having too much structure would limit my creativity. But what I am now learning is that not having structure or having very little structure allows me to throw away my energy and my time on activities that are not aligned with my goals.

So, with that in mind, I created a binder of my own. I have a place to put all my ideas, all my family’s needs and schedule, appointments, brochures, etc, all in one place.  Sometimes I don’t get everything done, but I get more than half the things I need to get done completed and that’s a lot.

I think the organized mom books and binders are cool, but if you are on a budget, here is the inexpensive and efficient way of I created my own organized mama binder.

You will need: Estimated cost ($7-10, less if you have a spare binder and a hole punch)

  • A binder, a hole punch (I prefer the 3-hole punch) and tabbed dividers (with lables–they usually come with it).
  • loose-lead paper
  • a calendar (you can use your online calendar is that works for you. I prefer using my “analog” calendar).
  1. Label your tabs. Some examples are Home, Self-Care, Bills, Children, Family Health, Work, Fun. Label the tabs according to your needs.
  2. D0 a “weekly dump.” A weekly dump is where you write down everything you need to do for the week.
  3. Once you’ve completed your dup, schedule all the tasks in your calendar. If there is something you can do after you’ve completed, to it right then.
  4. As you complete your tasks, remember to check them off.

Here are a few links to sites that can support you, whether you are just starting with getting things in order or if you’re a veteran at it. I hope you have an amazing weekend!

15 minutes is all it takes

I have been waking up 6 am (6:15 at my latest) every morning for almost a month now. There are a few mornings where I get in a nice long practice, but usually I get in about 15 minutes of yoga and 15 minutes of meditation with a little time left to journal. At first I would get down on myself for not having more time to do more. But little by little, I began to cherish the time I have. With those 15 minutes of yoga and meditation, I am devoting myself to cultivating a practice that will ground and prepare me for my day. Every time I show up to the mat or cushion, for however long, I am telling myself that my self-care is a priority. I am programming myself for vibrant living.

So today, if there is something you’ve been wanting to do and don’t think you have the time for it, set your timer for 15 minutes and go for it. If and when you can, add a minute or 2 to your practice.

Have a very powerful and productive week!

What is your 15 minutes practice going to be? Please share it with us in the comments.

What a mama needs: A Vibrant Way of Eating

On Tuesday, my husband and I started what I call a 3-day raw/living foods reset. We ate only raw/ live foods for three days. The first day was very hard. I thought I wouldn’t  make it through the first day, but I did. The same thing happened the second day. I thought to myself, “maybe I can have some quinoa- at least it’s vegan… “ but I knew my goal was 100% and anything less would not be reaching my goal. I made it through day two. By day three, things were a lot easier for me (my husband breezed through it). I feel so good that I made it through day three!

Tuesday also marked 21 days of me rising at 6AM and meditating every morning. I have read that it takes 21 days to make something a habit, so I am thankful that I am on my way to creating a habit that has been deeply nourishing for me.

To continue in the spirit of creating new habits that add vibrancy to my life, today I am beginning a 21-day vegan, high raw vibrant eating plan.  For the next 3 weeks, I will be following this self-created transformative plan:

  • 60-80% raw/living foods
  • 1-2 liters of water daily
  • All vegan and gluten free foods
  • No meals after 9 (maybe a piece of fruit or a cup of tea)

I feel so much clearer in my body and mind after just three days of eating raw/live foods. I would LOVE to do a juice fast, but because I am still nursing our 16-month old, I can’t. Instead, I will shift my diet to a plant based, nutrient dense diet, something that will be beneficial to both of us.

I will share some of the recipes,  discoveries and resources with you all here.  I also have a surprise for you (and myself)at the end of the 21 days!!! Stay tuned!

Please forgive the brief absence here. These past couple of weeks has been challenging, but shifting my diet has reset me on all levels. There will be new posts next week and the launch of The Vibrant Mama of The Week.

Have an amazing weekend!
